Hans-Jürgen Wischnewski

Hans-Jürgen Wischnewski (born 24 July 1922 in Allenstein, East Prussia (now Olsztyn, Poland); died 24 February 2005 in Cologne) was a German Social Democrat politician.

Wischnewski is best known outside Germany for his involvement in negotiating with the Somalian government during the joint Baader-Meinhof Gang and PFLP hijacking of Lufthansa Flight 181 aircraft in 1977. His successful negotiations allowed German GSG 9 troops to storm the plane in Mogadishu and rescue 90 hostages; three of the hijackers were killed in the process.

Because of his good relations with Arab countries he was nicknamed "Ben Wisch". This later became "Ben Cash" because of his duty as the party's paymaster.
